Yes, bridges can be built. The start begins with removing barriers and plain-ole listening.
I can honestly state I have lived a life seeing what the other side sees, hears and feels as a member of the public and as a police officer. These gaps are not insurmountable , but do require easing some of the barriers we place between us. The public holds walls of “why me! and I have rights!” ,while Officers often place walls of tinted glass and body armor.
Only when you relax some of these walls of self-imposed differences can we begin a conversation.. and only when both sides take the time to actually listen to the other side can an understanding begin to take shape.
My goal is to describe and share what the other side is seeing, hearing and ultimately feeling about the other. Funny thing about walking in between 2 worlds… you really begin to see the whole picture.
